Work in other media: Social isolation week
BBC Breakfast appearance:
In June 2011, Caro Hart undertook a week’s isolation to publicise the cause of social isolation suffered by many older people. Caro appeared on BBC Breakfast with Richard Furze, CE of charity Friends of the Elderly, to talk about the issues.
Caro also made a daily video diary detailing her experiences and how the use of “empathy aids” which simulated arthritis, deafness or being partially sighted, made her feel. Caro's video diaries from the beginning, middle and end of isolation week are given here. All seven days' videos are available on YouTube.
The campaign gained nationwide coverage and a large social media response saw Friends of the Elderly receive an increase in donations and volunteers, as well as being selected as The Sun's Christmas charity as a direct result of the campaign. It also resulted in a prize: the 2012 Marketing Week Engage award for the best campaign for the charity and voluntary sector.
